Antennas and Propagation for Emerging 5G/6G Communications

To celebrate the Antennas and Propagation Society's (AP-S) 75th anniversary, IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation (TAP) is proud to announce a Special Article Collection focusing on research in Emerging 5G/6G communications. This collection, curated by a panel of distinguished Guest Editors, features selected papers published in TAP during 2022 and 2023.

Wireless communication systems have become key players in enabling highly interactive and context-aware scenarios, with a broad range of applications and sectors, spanning from industry, logistics, healthcare, transportation or massive telemetry, just to name a few. The need for connectivity has been further spanned by new ways of handling and organizing information, within the framework of Internet of Things and the evolution towards proactive and predictive environments, such as those foreseen in Cognitive cities. This special article collection presents a collection of 31 articles covering four key areas:

  1. Antenna design,
  2. Propagation analysis,
  3. Novel devices such as metasurfaces/RIS,
  4. Emerging applications and scenarios.

We cordially thank the Guest Editors for undertaking this significant endeavor in compiling this comprehensive collection on 5G and Beyond Communications.
