Goodbye to Professor Julien Perruisseau-Carrier

June 17, 2014

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Julien Perruisseau-Carrier, on June 6, 2014. Professor Perruisseau-Carrier was a respected researcher of antenna designs and interdisciplinary researches related to electromagnetic waves from microwave to terahertz. He was a responsible Associate Editor of the Transactions. His untimely death is a great loss to the electromagnetics society and the Transactions. Professor Perruisseau-Carrier will be dearly missed as a notable scholar and an amiable friend. We are greatly saddened by the news, and our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Misuse of Return Loss

May 19, 2009

Perhaps over 30% of all antenna papers submitted to the Transactions in the past twelve months have used return loss incorrectly. This misuse of the term is occurring in other allied disciplines as well. For passive structures, return loss is a positive quantity and has the opposite sign of reflection coefficient expressed in dB.
