President's Message

Time flies fast, we are already in the second quarter of 2026. I am happy to report that our Society is advancing forward with many productive activities for the benefit of our members. As per the Society Constitution, “The Society shall be managed by an Administrative Committee (hereinafter called the AdCom) of members of the Society. The committee composition shall be as follows: the presiding President, the President-Elect, twelve AdCom members elected by the membership at large, and the four most junior past Presidents.

There may also be ex officio members as prescribed in the Bylaws (Section 4.2).” Section 4.2 of our Bylaws stipulates that “the Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, Director of Intersociety Collaboration, Honorary Life Members and Honorary Members of the AdCom, the Editors-in-Chief of the Society’s publications exclusively sponsored by IEEE AP-S, and all Chairs of standing committees of the AdCom shall serve as ex-officio members of the AdCom where the above mentioned are not otherwise AdCom members. The rights and privileges of regular and ex-officio members shall be identical except that no ex-officio member may vote in AdCom meetings. More

Qammer H. Abbasi is a Professor of Applied Electromagnetics & Sensing with the James Watt School of Engineering, executive director for Communication Sensing and Imaging Hub and School theme lead for Connecting People priority at University of Glasgow, UK. He has grant portfolio of £12m+ and contributed to 450+ leading international technical journal and peer reviewed conference papers (including nature portfolio) and 11 books and received several recognitions for his research including URSI Young Scientist Awards 2019, UK exceptional talent endorsement by Royal Academy of Engineering, Sensor Young Scientist Award 2021, World Class Professor by Indonesian Ministry 2022, National talent pool award by Pakistan, International Young Scientist Award by NSFC China, University Research Excellence Award, Research Culture award commendation 2021 and University Wide Teaching Excellence Award 2022 at Glasgow, 11 best paper awards, Best chapter award 2021 as chair from IEEE APS and IEEE MTT both, Named one of the top 100 influential voices in 5G as per the June 2022 report "Who is Who in 5G?" by Analytica as few examples. In addition, his work received media coverage by Analog IC tips, Microwaves & RF newsletters, Vertical news, BBC news, Scotland TV, Fiercewireless, and many other media houses around the world.

Prof. Abbasi is Fellow of European Alliance of Innovation, Industrial Fellow for Royal Academy of Engineering (2022-2023), Fellow of Royal society of Arts, Fellow of The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and Senior member of IEEE. He is an Associate editor for IEEE Journal of Electromagnetics, RF, and Microwaves in Medicine and Biology, IEEE Sensors, IEEE Internet of Things, IEEE open journal of Antenna and Propagation and Scientific reports. He is/was a committee member for IEEE APS Young professional, Sub-committee chair for IEEE YP Ambassador program, IEEE 1906.1.1 standard on nano communication, IEEE APS/SC WG P145, IET Antenna & Propagation and healthcare network and Union of Radio Science Commission B UK representative. Prof. Abbasi has been a member of the technical program committees of several IEEE flagship conferences and technical reviewer for several IEEE and top notch journals and acted as TPC chair and executive chair for 4th, 5th and 6th international UCET conference 2019, 2020, 2021 in addition to EAI Bodynets 2021 General Chair, local organising chair IEEE WCNC2023, EUCAP 2024 and ICC2026. His research interests include antennas for 5G/6G, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces, nano-scale EM communication, wearable and implantable sensors, Joint Sensing and Communication and Terahertz.
