Dear Readers,

I would like to warmly welcome you to the first newsletter of the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Electromagnetics, Antennas and Propagation (JSTEAP).

JSTEAP follows in the footsteps of several very successful selected topic journals within the IEEE family, including the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications (IF 17.2) and the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Signal Processing (IF 13.7), where each issue is devoted to a specific technical topic. The broad mission of these selected topic journals including JSTEAP, is to provide readers with a collection of up-to-date papers on a selected topic that become valuable and timely references for the research community.

In November 2025 the first issue of JSTEAP was published featuring 26 papers including, review, technical and survey papers. The selected topic for the first issue was Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC), epitomizing an intradisciplinary research area that is within the interests of all three cosponsoring societies. Six papers from this issue are highlighted at the end of this email.

To follow this exciting start to JSTEAP I would like to encourage you to become a pioneer and submit to one of the next three selected topics for JSTEAP:

• AI for Electromagnetics, Antennas, Propagation, Communication Channels and Microwave Circuits: submission deadline by 15 December 2025
  Lead Guest Editor: Zhi Ning Chen
• Programmable Metamaterials and Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces: submission deadline 27 February 2026
  Lead Guest Editors: Tie Jun Cui and Douglas Werner
• ESIT for Electromagnetics, Antennas, Propagation and Channel Models: submission deadline 15 March 2026
  Lead Guest Editor: Marco Di Renzo

I would also like to encourage you to consider becoming Guest Editors or submitting manuscripts to this new journal and becoming pioneers in the genesis and success of JSTEAP. JSTEAP is proudly co-sponsored by the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S), the IEEE Microwave Theory and Technology Society (MTT-S), and the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) and therefore provides an exciting bridge that can span these three societies through common interests such as wireless communications.
