Mahesh Pandurang Abegaonkar
Biography:
Prof. Mahesh P. Abegaonkar is a Professor at the Centre for Applied Research in Electronics (CARE), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Pune in 2002 and conducted post-doctoral research at Kyungpook National University, South Korea (2002–2005). His work addresses emerging global challenges in antennas and propagation, with emphasis on metasurfaces, reconfigurable intelligent reflecting surfaces, millimeter-wave systems for 5G and beyond, and advanced antenna arrays.
He has contributed extensively to bridging fundamental electromagnetics with practical wireless technologies, with over 100 journal publications, two books (CRC Press), four patents, and supervision of 14 Ph.D. scholars. He is a Fellow of IETE (2024), Senior Member IEEE (2014), an INAE Young Associate, and recipient of the INAE Young Engineer Award (2008) and the IETE M. N. Saha Memorial Award for Best Application Oriented Paper (2013).

Qualifications:
Prof. Abegaonkar combines technical excellence with proven leadership in IEEE AP-S. As Chair of the AP-S/CRFID Delhi Chapter, he delivered ~150% membership growth and 120+ events, in addition to conducting workshops connecting AP-S Presidents directly with members, strengthening grassroots engagement. He has initiated multiple AP-S Student Branch Chapters and contributes to key AP-S committees, including Membership and Geographical Activities, Chapter Activity, and John Volakis Travel Grant. As Region 10 Representative, he brings an important Asia-Pacific perspective. His research in antennas, metasurfaces, and 5G systems, along with mentoring 14 Ph.D. scholars, positions him to effectively support the Society’s global growth, inclusivity, and strategic initiatives.

- Transformational Chapter Leadership: As Chair of the IEEE AP-S/CRFID Delhi Chapter, delivered ~150% membership growth, organized 120+ technical events, IEEE AP-S Outstanding Chapter Award (2025), geographically diverse Chapter Executive Committee.
- Expanding AP-S Student Ecosystem: Initiated and secured five new AP-S Student Branch Chapters across India, with seven more in progress, significantly strengthening early engagement in AP-S.

Position Statement:
If elected, I will leverage my proven record of membership growth and personal member connection to further strengthen IEEE AP-S globally. I will promote grassroots interactions that align Society leadership with local needs, ensuring every member feels heard and valued. I will enhance student and young professional participation through mentoring, Student Branch Chapters, and targeted technical activities. I will actively champion women's participation by supporting women researchers in leadership roles at Student Branch Chapter and Chapter levels, particularly across Region 10. I will expand outreach to underserved and underrepresented regions, creating inclusive opportunities across geographies. I will further support SIGHT initiatives and specialized workshops - such as the Advanced School of Antennas - to connect AP-S research with broader societal impact. My goal is to build a more connected, inclusive, and vibrant AP-S community that supports members at every stage of their professional journey.

Candidate Name:
Takashi Tomura
Biography:
Takashi Tomura received the B.E., M.E., and D.E. degrees in electrical and electronic engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan, in 2008, 2011, and 2014, respectively. He was a Research Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science in 2013. From 2014 to 2017, he worked at Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Tokyo, where he was engaged in the research and development of aperture antennas for satellite communications and radar systems. From 2017 to 2019, he was a Specially Appointed Assistant Professor and then an Assistant Professor at the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
He is currently an Associate Professor at the Institute of Science Tokyo (former Tokyo Institute of Techonlogy). His research interests include electromagnetic analysis, reflectarray and transmitarray antennas, deployable and satellite antennas, sub-THz and millimeter-wave antennas, antenna-in-package technologies, reconfigurable antennas, and waveguide slot array antennas.

Dr. Tomura combines broad technical expertise, editorial experience, conference organization, industry experience, and international leadership. His work spans antennas and propagation, microwave and terahertz technologies, optics, and integrated circuits, with applications to satellite communications, 6G, and sensing. He has served AP-S through AWPL, TC-2, AP-S/URSI 2027, and iWEM 2026, and has actively contributed to the Region 10 antenna community. Having worked on satellite and radar antennas in industry, he bridges academia and industry, and leads international collaborations with partners in Europe, North America, South America, and Asia, including a JST ASPIRE project as PI.

Building on my experience in AP-S publications, conference organization, industry research, and international joint projects, I will leverage my extensive network across Europe, the Americas and Asia to strengthen its global integration specifically targeting young members, and industry-academia collaborations bridging between regions, generations and technical communities.
I will promote cross-regional workshops and programs on cutting-edge technologies such as space, sub-THz/6G, sensing, and integrated antenna technologies. Based on this, I will support engagement from rapidly growing communities, including Southeast Asia in Region 10, and expand outreach to countries with emerging antenna communities and low IEEE membership.
I will also aim to create inclusive environments that empower students and early-career researchers, helping them move from first conference participation to sustained involvement in AP-S activities, and finally become long-term society leaders.
Through these initiatives, I am committed to advancing the global AP field and ensuring a diverse, interconnected community for all.
