Description: The award will recognize the best paper published in IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters (IEEE AWPL) by an IEEE AP-S Young Professional in the preceding calendar year. Currently, there are no awards or recognition for high-quality manuscripts published in the Letters by the Young Professionals. The presence of the award will provide an incentive that will attract outstanding contributions to the Letters from young professionals. Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose was the first to conduct millimeter wave experiments in 1894 in India. He investigated the properties of waves and materials in the short cm- to mm-wave part of the spectrum. He used waveguides, horn antennas, dielectric lenses, various polarizers, and even semiconductors at frequencies as high as 60 GHz. This award is named in honor of Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose.

Administration: IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society

Eligibility: Eligibility for the award is reserved for the first author of the paper who at the time of paper submission is an active IEEE AP-S Young Professional. IEEE defines “Young Professional” as those who have graduated from their first professional degree within the past 15 years.

Prize: The award consists of a certificate and a one-time monetary prize of $1,500. All co-authors received a plaque, but the monetary prize is given only to the first author, who is a Young Professional. Only one recipient is selected annually.

Frequency: The Award will be presented annually. Award will be given only if a suitable awardee is identified.

Funds: The award will be managed by the Antennas and Propagation Society, through the IEEE AP-S Talent Development Fund, whose delegation of Authority for expenditure of Funds form the IEEE Foundation has been signed in September 2023. The award is instituted through a donation of 30 thousand USD committed by Dr. C. J. Reddy. According to the rules established between IEEE FinCom, AP-S and IEEE Foundation, an additional 30 thousand USD will be provided by the IEEE AP-S Reserve. Dr. C.J. Reddy is providing funding via donor agreement.

Nominee Solicitation: All eligible letters of IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters (IEEE AWPL), i.e. with Young Professional as first author and published in the given timeframe are automatically considered by the awards committee.

Award Committee: The selection will be conducted by the IEEE AP-S Paper Awards Subcommittee of the IEEE AP-S Awards Standing Committee, which is composed, as specified in IEEE AP-S Operating Manual in accordance with IEEE Policies 4.4, by a variable number of members approved by IEEE AP-S AdCom each year on January. According to IEEE AP-S Operating Manual, chair and members are selected by the IEEE AP-S President and approved by AdCom, finally appointed by IEEE AP-S President. The term is one-year renewable no more than twice for a total of three years, with the exception of the Awards Committee Chair, who may serve for up to three years as a subcommittee member followed by up to three years as Awards Committee Chair.

At the end of the evaluation process the Awards Committee makes the recommendation to the IEEE AP-S President, President-Elect and Immediate Past President, who approve the recipient by majority vote. In case of concerns, the decision is returned to the Awards Committee for re-evaluation

Schedule: The award is an annual award for the best paper published in the calendar year before the award will be presented. The winner will be notified after the first meeting of the IEEE AP-S AdCom.

Selection/Basis for Judging: The IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Paper Award will be selected based on technical excellence, impact, importance of the contribution and presentation.

Presentation: The award winner will be presented at the Award ceremony of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Symposium. No travel reimbursement will be provided to receive the award.

Publicity: Awardee will be widely publicized in the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Website and in the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Magazine.
